Savoring magic moments, even at 6 am

Dr. Post’s bernedoodle Bowie under a dawn sky

Hello friends! Katie Post, Dr. Post’s other half, coming to you with a little story from my life with our dogs.

Each morning I walk our three dogs. It’s not easy to walk three dogs at one time. Certainly not in the middle of a freeze-thaw cycle in the middle of winter, and definitely not easy when the dogs range in size from 10 pounds, tiny to 90 pounds, huge. So my solution is to get up well before dawn (before the other dogs and walkers), brew a hot cup of coffee to take with me, and hit the road to speed-walk my furry pack off-leash to the wide-open spaces adjacent to our neighborhood.

Although it can be cold and dark, my spirits are always lifted by the pep in the step of each of the three pooches as they alternate between sniffing, peeing on, and running past bushes and trees at high speeds.

Being around the dogs as they experience such delight helps me connect to my levity. I am reminded that it’s the simple things in life that bring us the most joy—good company, a healthy body, and sensory stimulation that makes us feel alive.

And when you continue to show up to experience the simple delights of living well with those you love, you may just be rewarded with an awe-inspiring sunrise on an otherwise perfectly average morning in our beautiful high-desert oasis of Bend, Oregon.

Happy walking in wonder and delight!
